Intel 13th Gen Core Desktop and Mobile Processors lineup

Intel has finally announced the rest of the lineup for Desktop processors and Mobile processors for the current 13th Generation, Raptor Lake. Intel announced their top tier, high performance K and KF processors last year (September 27, 2022) and they have been available to customers since October 20th 2022.

At the top was Intel Core i9 13900K with a retail price of $589. It features 24 total cores; 8 Performance cores and 16 Efficient cores; to a total of 32 threads with clock speeds of up to 5.8GHz. Intel says it provides up to 15 per cent better single-threaded performance and up to 41% better multithreaded performance than the previous generation. Its features Intel performance hybrid architecture which integrates two core microarchitecture into a single die, prioritizing and distributing workloads to optimize performance.

It features support for up to 16 lanes of PCIe Gen 5.0 support for I/O throughput. It also has native DDR5 support for up to 5600MT/s and can support higher speeds with overclocking. Similar to Alder Lake CPUs (12th Gen), these chips also have support for DDR4 of up to 3200MT/s allowing motherboards with support for DDR4 and Raptor Lake.

These 13th Gen Processors uses the same LGA 1700 socket used by the 12th Gen processors from the previous generations. Thus, they are compatible with the previous generation motherboard.

These processors also have two types of cores, initially introduced in 12th Generation chips. They consist of two types of cores:

  • Performance cores (P-cores) - These are cores optimized to handle single and lightly threaded performance and thus enhance productivity and gaming experience.

  • Efficient cores (E-cores) - They are optimized to handle scaling lightly threaded workloads. They minimize interruptions from background task management.

At CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2023, Intel have finally unveiled the rest of the lineup, including a first look at Mobile processors.

Here is the lineup for 13th Generation: To understand Intel's Naming Convention, here is a guide.

Core Features

Performance cores (P-core)

These are the highest performing CPU core designed to handle single-threaded, lightly threaded, or burst workloads like 4K gaming and 3D design. They were introduced in intel 12th Generation(Alder Lake). They support Hyperthreading which is a technology to process two instructions or threads per clock cycle.

Efficient cores (E-core)

Designed to handle multi-threaded and background tasks such as minimized browser tabs, and cloud syncing, leaving P-cores free to deliver incredible performance without interruption. They can only process 1 thread or instruction per clock cycle. They were also first introduced in 12th Gen (Alder Lake)

Performance Hybrid Architecture

This technology integrates two core microarchitectures into a single die. This is to prioritize and distribute workloads to provide optimal performance.

Intel Thread Director
